The Wall that Heals | October 16, 18-21

The Wake Forest Purple Heart Foundation will host The Wall That Heals, along with its Mobile Education Center, on Oct. 18-21, 2018, at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road.

On October 16th before the opening of the exhibit, the Wall that Heals will be traveling through Youngsville, Rolesville, and Wake Forest until it arrives at Joyner Park. It will pass by the backside of the seminary shortly after 11:50am on Tuesday

Free and open to the public, the exhibit will be available 24-hours-a-day. However, The Wall will close at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) recently announced the 2018 The Wall That Heals national tour schedule, and Wake Forest has the honor of being the only town in North Carolina slated to host the exhibit. The 2018 tour began on March 1 in Portland, Texas, and will visit nearly 40 communities during the year.

The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

New, Larger Exhibit
Wake Forest will be among the first to host the new, larger exhibit, which includes a three-quarter scale Wall replica that is 375 feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. With the new replica at this size, visitors will be able to experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in Washington, D.C.

For the first time in the history of The Wall That Heals, visitors will be able to perform “name rubbings” of individual service member’s names on The Wall. Paper and pencil will be provided.
