Join the Kingdom Choir to Sing with the Gettys at Southeastern this October!

This Fall, our hymn-writing friends Keith & Kristyn Getty will return to Southeastern as part of their 2019 Sing! TourAlong with Stuart Townend, the Gettys have pioneered the modern hymn genre, and were commissioned to write our Southeastern school hymn “For the Cause.” On October 15th, the Gettys and their world-class band will be at Southeastern to lead workshops and share an evening of worshipful music.

Southeastern students will have a special opportunity to sing with the Gettys at the October 15 concert as part of the Southeastern Kingdom Choir. Read on for more information about this opportunity.

A Unique Schedule

Preparing an entire concert of professional arrangements for the Sing! Concert will require some quick music learning. Also, we want to have a BIG CHOIR that will fill up the stage in Binkley. Therefore, this Fall’s Kingdom Choir schedule will take on a unique 8-week format, as follows:

  • Regular morning rehearsals: These will begin on Thursday August 22 at 9:30am in the Bethea Room. These will continue on Tuesday & Thursday mornings through October 15 for members of the Kingdom Choir.
  • Additional Tuesday evening rehearsals: Beginning September 3, Kingdom Choir members will join with singers from local churches to form the Southeastern Sing! Choir, an 80-90 member choir formed for the October 15 Sing! Concert. These rehearsals will occur from 7:00-9:00pm on Tuesday evenings in the Bethea Room, for 6 weeks total.
Note: Tuesday evening rehearsals will continue through the week of Fall Break (Oct 7-11). Unless you have previously arranged travel plans, please plan to rehearse with the Sing! Choir on October 8.
  • Rehearsal and Concert with the Gettys: On October 15, we’ll gather at 3:45pm to rehearse with the Gettys and their band on stage in Binkley. Afterwards dinner will be provided for singers. Then we’ll be ready for the 7:30pm concert.

Our Directors

This Fall, Professor Patricia Tharpe will direct the Kingdom Choir. Professor Tharpe is an accomplished accompanist, music teacher, and singer with extensive experience in both the church and education. She has worked as a director for choirs and a college a cappella ensemble and has toured professionally with two Christian singing groups.

In addition, Dr. Aaron Jackson from Christ Baptist Church in Raleigh will direct Tuesday evening rehearsals with the full Southeastern Sing! Choir. Kingdom Choir singers will learn a lot from these directors!
