Michael Bird and Bruce Ashford Respond to the Benedict Option | November 28

Should Christians step back from or participate in the larger political and cultural communities? Is Christian life more robust when it remains in its own subculture?

The Evangelical Voices in the Academy Lecture Series is excited to announce that Dr. Michael F. Bird of Ridley College in Melbourne and Dr. Bruce Ashford of SEBTS will present lectures in response to the Benedict Option.

Dr. Bird is an Anglican priest, a lecturer in Theology, and has written and edited over thirty books in the fields of Septuagint, Historical Jesus, the Gospels, St. Paul, Biblical Theology, and Systematic Theology.

Dr. Ashford is the Provost and Professor of Theology and Culture at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of several books on the intersection of theology and culture, has appeared on several nationally syndicated news programs, and his writing has been featured in many national news outlets. He also serves as an elder at The Summit Churchin Raleigh-Durham, NC.

Dr. Bird will present “The Thessolonian Strategy: An Anti-Podean Alternative to the Benedict Option,” and Dr. Ashford will present “An Abrahamic Alternative to the Benedict Option.” These lectures will be followed by a facilitated discussion of these two reflective responses.
