Event Description

Any of our juniors and seniors in Judson College are invited to submit an 8-10 page research essay you’ve already written for a monetary prize! The Excellence in Writing Competition is Judson College’s annual research writing contest. Juniors and seniors at the college in good academic standing are invited to enter one 8–10 page research essay that argues a thesis, shows academic research, and is written for a class in Judson College anytime during 2024 or 2025. This will enter you to win a monetary prize and win competition points in the House System for students placed in a House. Edits and improvements to these essays submitted for a class are allowed before submitting said essays to this competition. First place prize is $500, second place is $250, and third place is $150.

The submission deadline is Friday, February 27, 2026 before midnight. The presentation and award event recognizing the top three research essays is April 24, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in Appleby Chapel.
