Sing Shape Note Hymns Saturday, March 9

The tradition of shape-note hymn singing goes back to the earliest days of American hymn writing and has been featured in films such as Awake, My Soul. This Saturday you have an opportunity to experience this tradition firsthand here at Southeastern! Come join us as we sit in “the hollow square” and sing songs such as “Amazing Grace” and “What Wondrous Love Is This” in “fasola’s.”

This opportunity is part of a Southeastern class on congregational song in history and ministry. No previous experience is necessary and the event is free and open to the public. Copies of the hymns from the Sacred Harp will be provided. Contact Professor Joshua Waggener (jwaggener@sebts.edu) or Dr. John Boozer (jboozer@sebts.edu) with questions.

The singing will take place March 9th from 2:30-3:30pm in Appleby Chapel.
